Call for participation in the WeCode24 coding project in 2020
The WeCode24 programme is a Naspers initiative, in partnership with Media24 and the University of Stellenbosch, aimed at giving Grade 8 to 11 learners in under-resourced schools a chance to learn coding to widen their career prospects. The programme is intent on having serious fun while learning skills that are high in demand. Learning through playful design, with the aid of computer programming in a professional programming language, learners are empowered to apply themselves creatively to their own unique contexts, with real world applications. The programme is offered free of charge.
Learners who participate in the programme will engage with lesson material and with each other through an online platform and community, as well as at workshops and coding clubs. They will need access to the school’s computer lab as they progress through the course material in a self-directed way. Some of the topics covered in the programme are graphics, animation, games and physical computing with programmable electronics.
Since the programme is aimed at under-resourced schools, we invite such schools in the Cape Metropole and Boland areas who are interested in joining the programme, to send an email to [email protected] by 15 January 2020. Please include the name and contact details of the school, as well as a paragraph about the school, motivating what it would mean to the learners to partake in this programme.
